Its a beautiful outdoor (and a bit of indoor) activity. The area is fascinating and almost unbelievable in its geological history and concept. We went with a local guide who we followed around – Graeme Addison (he is based at Otters Haunt in Parys). He is deeply knowledgeable as well as very accessible and at R365.00 for a half day per person it was money well spent.

We like viewing geographical sites. We drove to Parys on a first Saturday of February so that we could enjoy the market there. Then drove the Vredefort Dome route. Well worth our time.

Lovely place to visit, beautiful views and peaceful setting. We did the Dome tour and hike with Graeme Addison from Blast tours … it was so educational and informative, the kids all loved it too. He customised the tour to fit our requirements and is really an expert in the area!

First off, you must have a qualified tour guide to show you around this amazing geological impact site. We found Professor Graeme Addison and he took us on an awesome journey of discovery. We started off in a classroom environment learning about the event and geological ramifications and then he took us to see living proof of the meteorite collision, 2 billion years ago. He also showed us and explained the enormous historical relevance of the area.
